Aart van Velten was a civil law notary from 1979 until 2003. At present, he is an adviser to the firm. He regularly holds lectures in the Netherlands and abroad on topical legal subjects. He advised the Ministry of Justice on new legislation regarding apartment right and cable networks.

Aart is the author of various reference books dealing with real estate. He is emeritus professor of real estate law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, lecturer at the Construction Law Society, board member of the Society of Civil Law, member of the supervisory board of the Foundation for the advancement of notarial studies and member of the editorial staff of het Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht.
